Introducing CD-96, a
slimmer computerised Internet Dictionary
– Awarded ISO9001 & FCC Compliance,
making use of Compact Flash as the new storage
media. The Besta CD96 has the only computerized
American Heritage Dictionary of the English
Language. This dictionary is recognized by the
American academic industry as one of the most
outstanding dictionaries in the world. With its
wholesome illustrations, elaborate explanations
and origins of words, one can use it to master
the correct use of the English language. The
American Library Association has commended that

Introduced CD-86, a bilingual computerised
Internet dictionary with double cards slot and
8 major Internet functions. Card slot: With the
use of Internet Learning Card, user can
download 8 major Internet resources, and read
177 electronic books. Scalable card slot:
functions can be further expanded to include
English, Japanese etc. In the same year,
introduced CD-53, a bilingual computerised
speech dictionary with human voice recording,
handwriting input method and built-in Oxford
Dictionary. Handier and comes with more
functions.

Early this year, two new lower end
models were introduced to the market to increase
the product range for the education market. CD-23
being the smallest unit Human Voice Enunciation
and CD-51, the language tutor with 8 language
built-in including English, Mandarin, Cantonese,
Japanese, German, Spanish, Italian and French.
Mid of the year, two more higher end model was
introduced, CD-69 with built-in modem for easy
connection link with PC and CD82P with built-in
English manual whereby the earlier model CD-82
does not have. |

Due to the overwhelming needs from the
education market, OPASS was redesigned and name
OPASS 2 being the smallest and lightest Besta
Dictionary ever and yet more powerful function
compared to OPASS. The first ever Human
Enunciation set CD-82 was launched, powered by
built-in Oxford Dictionary and Cambridge
Encyclopedia, it was the perfect tool for all age
group. |

A
lower end model OPASS was launched to cater for
the younger groups of students. At the same time,
CD-48 was introduced into the market with
built-in Oxford Dictionary for the ease of
students. CD-66SP was also introduced during the
same year, being the first Besta Dictionary with
built-in modem and voice recording

Beginning of the year, CD-47 was
launched being the first pen-based set without
the card slot. In May, under the co-operation
with Singapore Telecom, Besta CD-67 enable
wireless mobile data communication services
through an inserted wireless modem card, this
double cards slot Electronic Dictionary was
announced as the platform of both electronic
books and wireless mobile data communication. End
of the year, CD47P was introduced with Human
Voice Enunciation and greater memory compared
with CD-47. |

March, a new Electronic Dictionary, Besta CD-67,
with double cards slot, which enable voice
recording and handwriting, was launched. At the
same year, the new CD-37 was

June, a series of animated electronic books were
completed, leading the design of IC card
electronic books into the stage of word, voice,
animative and interactive. |

In January, a newly designed Electronic
Dictionary with single card slot and electronic
books system, Besta CD-65 , was launched, CD-65
won the second "National Award of Excellencer"
awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs,
R.O.C. In November, a series of natural speech
electronic books were launched, to strengthen the
learning result of Besta CD-65. |

In January, Besta CD-61 Electronic
Dictionary won the first "National Award of
Excellence" awarded by the Ministry of Economic
Affairs, R.O.C. In March, Besta CD-32P was
launched, and was awarded as 1993's Best Product
Design. In December, Besta CD-37 was

May, a Japanese-Chinese /Chinese-Japanese
Electronic Speaking Dictionary, Besta CD-41, was
launched. In July, an Electronic Dictionary with
single card slot, Besta CD-61, was launched and
more than one hundred electronic books formed in
IC card were completed continuously. In December,
an ultra-thin Electronic Speaking Dictionary,
Besta CD-32, was launched. |
